Abstract
This study investigates the performance of a hybrid electrocoagulation and adsorption process for the removal of Methylene Blue (MB) dye and the reduction of electrical conductivity (EC) in synthetic wastewater. The results demonstrate that solution pH is the predominant factor influencing treatment efficiency, with optimal performance observed within a narrow range of 6.5 to 7. A pH exceeding 7 led to a marked decrease in dye removal. The use of oak-based adsorbent further enhanced the process, where a higher dosage (0.083 g/L) improved removal due to increased surface area. The kinetics of EC reduction showed a rapid decrease with contact time, plateauing after 50 minutes. Although elevated temperatures (up to 31°C) positively influenced both dye removal and EC reduction, their effect was secondary to that of pH. The system was optimized, yielding the following ideal operating conditions: pH = 7, adsorbent dosage = 0.083 g/L, contact time = 50 min, and temperature = 31°C. This work confirms the viability of the hybrid EC-Ads approach and establishes precise operational parameters for effective dye wastewater treatment.
